Step-by-Step Guide: How to Replace a Broken LCD Screen on Nikon Coolpix A900

The Nikon Coolpix A900 is a fantastic compact travel zoom camera, but a dropped camera or pressure on the rear monitor often results in a cracked screen, black display, or flickering backlight. Fortunately, replacing the LCD monitor or full rear casing assembly is a straightforward DIY repair.

Required Tools & Replacement Parts:

Step 1: Disconnect Battery and Power

Before opening the camera, remove the battery and SD card to avoid short-circuiting the motherboard or delicate backlight circuits.

Step 2: Remove External Case Screws

Carefully unscrew the perimeter screws located on the sides, bottom plate, and near the battery chamber. Keep screws organized by length and location.

Step 3: Separate the Rear Casing & Detach Ribbon Cables

Gently use a plastic pry tool to unclip the rear shell. Caution: Do not yank the casing apart. Locate the ribbon flex cable connected to the mainboard, lift the zero-insertion-force (ZIF) latch, and gently slide the ribbon out.

Step 4: Install the New LCD Screen Assembly

Mount the new LCD panel into the rear frame (or install the integrated rear shell assembly). Connect the flex cable into the latch and lock it securely in place.

Step 5: Test Display Before Final Assembly

Reinsert the battery and power on the camera to verify display illumination, sharpness, and menu navigation before fastening all external screws.
